In case for a stock exchange clock, you can have one colour for the morning trading session, another for the afternoon session, another for London's LSE VWAP and so on. You can have up to 10 differently defined colours per clock to identify various time periods.
Notice that the number of available colours (we call them clock profiles) is not limited to two as in market open / closed situation.
